Hirst's "For The Love of God" Diamond Skull

Placed outside of the White Cube Gallery Masons yard at 3.30 am on Sunday night in response to the Damien Hirst's "For The Love of God" diamond skull exhibition.The "For the Love of God" prank was created using 6522 Swarovski crystals and took Laura, the artist, a month to create.

イギリスで、ローラと名乗るアーティストが、史上最高額のダミアン・ハーストの
作品のレプリカをこしらえて、夜中にギャラリーのそばのゴミの上に置き去りに
したらしい。ＹＢＡ（ヤング・ブリット・アーティスト）世代からバンクシー世代への
世代交代が完了したことを象徴する画期的な事件だと思う。（いいぞ、もっとやれ、
ダミアンも負けるな）

・・・と書いたら、今日、「ＢＴ」の今月号(8月号)が送られてきました。
「海外ニュース」（←最近はほとんどここしか読まない）のコーナーに
ダミアンの作品のニュースは載ってましたが、残念ながらレプリカの
ことまでは載ってませんでした。ということで、来月号に期待します。

さっき英語圏の方からコメントをいただき、PIEK! によるジオラマ、
「Damien Hirst trips over a diamond the size of his head
and die」という作品を教えてもらいました。むかし、Ｍ・カテランが、
ローマ法王とヒトラーで、こういうのをつくってましたね。

although these works deny a specific anthropological or historical reading,
the results are compelling, being celebratory and seductive, as well as ominous and haunting.
